Rays, victim's family speak out about Bush's DUI arrest | Crime

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The family of the Charlotte County man investigators say was the victim of a hit-and-run by Rays Minor League pitcher Matt Bush is speaking out.

The crash has left him in critical condition in a South Florida hospital.

The right handed reliever's bond was set at more than a million dollars and he faces seven charges. He was sent to minor league camp a week ago. Days later, investigators say he borrowed a car and hit 72-year-old motorcyclist Anthony Tufano.

Tufano was riding home after babysitting his granddaughter. His family says the marathon runner recently lost his wife of 50 years and now has road rash on his arms and back. Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet.

The family is angry that the Rays allowed Bush into their community.

Rays Executive Vice President Andrew Friedman said, "I think it's safe to say he's not going to play for us." Friedman said a support system had been put in place for Bush given his past problems with alcohol.

Bush is slated to be back in court May 21st. His attorney told a Charlotte County Judge he understands his career and his life are probably in jeopardy.
